Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum
Sophie Dahl is ‘over the moon’ for being pregnant having her first child, friends exposed yesterday.
The supermodel turned TV chef, who celebrates her 33rd birthday on Wednesday, said the news was ‘the best present in the world’.
Miss Dahl and her jazz musician husband Jamie Cullum, 31, verified on Friday night that they are expecting their first child.
It is fully understood she has had a healthy scan and is around three-and-a-half months pregnant.
Miss Dahl declared the news to friends last week, telling them she had an additional reason to celebrate her birthday.
One said: ‘She doesn’t yet know whether it’s a boy or a girl and she doesn’t care. She and Jamie are just delighted at the prospect of becoming parents.
‘They have been excitedly talking about names and making plans for the nursery at their new house.’
Earlier this year the couple, who were married in January, moved into the £3 million home in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, where Sophie’s grandfather, the author Roald Dahl, once lived.
The buddy added: ‘Sophie has always been broody and she adores children. We all think she will be a superb mother and Jamie is also elated.
‘The big joke is whether the child is going to be statuesque like Sophie or small like Jamie.’
